How we operate

Spes Bona is approved by the Department of Education and the University of Cape town as a residence for female students pursuing tertiary studies. In addition, our residents study at various other tertiary institutions such as UCT, VEGA, FEDISA, and INSCAPE as well as other colleges.

Application forms may be downloaded from this website and applications are considered by our Selections Committee. Please consult this webpage elsewhere for the application process, deadlines and application fees.

Continuity is a feature of the Residence as many of our students are daughters or granddaughters of previous students.

Our Company registration number is 1914/001357/07.
Our PBO reference number is 930 042 091
Our NPO number is 131 382 NPO.

The members of the Management Committee serve on a voluntary basis.   They appoint a Lady Warden and an  Assistant Lady Warden (who also acts as the Secretary),  to be in charge of the day-to-day functioning of the Residence and to act as in loco parentis.

Six of the students are selected annually from the student body to form a House Committee, which under the direction of the Lady Warden, is responsible for the discipline of the Residence.

In addition, students are required to familiarize themselves with and sign a copy of the House Rules as a precondition for the acceptance of their application to reside at Spes. A copy of the House Rules can be found below.
